Windsor Suburb Profile

Windsor, one of Brisbane’s most historic inner-north suburbs, combines heritage character, a railway station and quick access to the CBD with strong demand for both houses and units.

An Introduction to windsor

Located approximately 3.5km north of the Brisbane CBD, Windsor is a well-established suburb within the City of Brisbane. It is bordered by Wilston, Grange, Lutwyche, Albion, Bowen Hills and Herston.

Land in the district was first sold in the 1850s, and development picked up after the Bowen Bridge opened in 1860. The area was then known as Breakfast Creek. The Shire of Windsor was formed in 1887, named after Windsor Castle in Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee year, and became the Town of Windsor in 1904. The former Shire Council Chambers, built in 1896 and 1897 from local Brisbane tuff, still stands on Lutwyche Road. In 1925 Windsor joined Greater Brisbane, and its former mayor, William Jolly, became the first mayor of the combined city. Windsor State School and Windsor War Memorial Park remain on the heritage register today.

With extensive experience buying across Brisbane’s northside, the team at Lauren Jones Buyers Agency has deep local insight into Windsor’s best streets, school catchments and long-term growth drivers.

Once a shire seat on the edge of Brisbane, Windsor is now a dense, well-connected inner-north suburb. It has its own railway station, heritage homes and a busy retail strip along Lutwyche Road.

Why Choose Windsor?

Windsor is one of the closest northside suburbs to the CBD. Windsor railway station on Eildon Road provides regular services to Ferny Grove, Brisbane and Beenleigh, and Lutwyche Road is the main northern access route.

The market is active. Houses have grown by around 11% and units by around 16% over the past year. Houses take a median of 19 days to sell and units 12 days. Over the same 12 months, 85 units and 72 houses sold, so the unit market is as busy as the house market.

Windsor is largely residential and has many old Queenslanders. Several properties are heritage listed, so buyers should check for any heritage requirements. Streets close to Breakfast Creek were affected by the 1974 floods, so buyers should also check flood overlays and the condition of each property individually.

Whether you’re seeking a character home, a well-located unit or a long-term investment close to the CBD, Windsor offers a level of heritage and convenience that few Brisbane suburbs can match.
