Virginia Suburb Profile

Virginia, one of Brisbane’s most family-oriented northern suburbs, combines two railway stations and Sandgate Road access with generous parkland, a heritage-listed school and steady growth.

An Introduction to virginia

Located approximately 10km north-north-east of the Brisbane CBD, Virginia is a well-established suburb within the City of Brisbane. It is bordered by Geebung, Boondall, Banyo, Wavell Heights, Nundah and Northgate.

Virginia was mostly farmland until 1888, when the opening of the North Coast railway line made it a district. The name is thought to come from the US state. A post office opened in 1898, and from the 1890s the suburb attracted industry, including a brick works and a pipe works. Virginia State School opened in 1920 and is heritage listed. Significant residential development did not arrive until the 1950s.

With extensive experience buying across Brisbane’s northside, the team at Lauren Jones Buyers Agency has deep local insight into Virginia’s best streets, school catchments and long-term growth drivers.

Once a farming district with brickworks and factories, Virginia is now a settled family suburb. It has two railway stations, creekside parkland and a heritage-listed primary school.

Why Choose Virginia?

Virginia station provides services to the CBD, the Redcliffe Peninsula and Caboolture, and Bindha station provides services to Brisbane and Shorncliffe. Westfield Chermside is about 3km away.

The median house price is $1.3 million, up around 6.6% over the year to June 2026, and houses take a median of 22 days to sell. Virginia is a small, tightly held suburb, with 39 house sales in 12 months. About 76% of homes are owner occupied, compared with 59% across Brisbane, and 61% of households are families with children.

Around 98% of homes in Virginia are separate houses, and only 1% are apartments, so unit sales are rare. Two railway lines and a Transport for Brisbane bus depot run through the suburb, and it has a history of industrial land use, so buyers should inspect the surrounding streetscape of each property. Downfall Creek runs through the suburb, so buyers should also check flood overlays.

Whether you’re a first home buyer, a growing family or an investor seeking a well-connected northside suburb, Virginia offers a level of connectivity and space that few comparable Brisbane suburbs can match.
