Mount Gravatt Suburb Profile

Mount Gravatt, one of Brisbane’s most established southside suburbs, combines a prominent hill and bushland reserve with Logan Road convenience, strong schools and strong recent growth.

An Introduction to Mount Gravatt

Located approximately 10km south-south-east of the Brisbane CBD, Mount Gravatt is a well-established suburb within the City of Brisbane. It is bordered by Holland Park, Holland Park West, Tarragindi, Nathan, Mount Gravatt East and Upper Mount Gravatt.

Mount Gravatt was home to the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples, who knew the hill as a place of echidnas. Surveyor Robert Dixon named it in 1840 after Lieutenant George Gravatt, commander of the Moreton Bay penal settlement. Mount Gravatt State School opened in 1874, and by the First World War the area was a farming district with a small village along Logan Road. The Mount Gravatt Showgrounds gained a permanent home in 1919. Trams reached the suburb in the early 1950s and ran until 1969, and the end of the line was known locally as The Terminus. Mount Gravatt State High School opened in 1960, and the library followed in 1967.

With extensive experience buying across Brisbane’s southside, the team at Lauren Jones Buyers Agency has deep local insight into Mount Gravatt’s best streets, school catchments and long-term growth drivers.

Once a farming village, Mount Gravatt is now a well-established family suburb. It is centred on Logan Road, with a hill and lookout reserve covering close to 40% of its area.

Why Choose Mount Gravatt?

Kippa-Ring is about 3km by road from Redcliffe and its waterfront. The railway terminus offers a direct service towards Roma Street in the Brisbane CBD, and the suburb has the peninsula’s main shopping, dining and cinema options on its doorstep.

The market is strong. Houses have grown by around 19% and units by around 26% over the past year. Houses take a median of 14 days to sell and units 12 days. Over the same 12 months, 135 houses and 51 units sold. About 62% of homes are owner occupied.

Kippa-Ring is a low-lying suburb, with an elevation of about 6m, and its northern edge was once swampland. Buyers should check flood and storm tide overlays and the age and condition of each property individually.

Whether you’re a first home buyer, a growing family or an investor seeking strong yields, Kippa-Ring offers a level of convenience and value that few comparable bayside suburbs can match.
