Clontarf Suburb Profile

Clontarf, the gateway to the Redcliffe Peninsula, combines a bayside setting and long beach foreshore with a large industrial employment base, good schools and strong recent growth.

An Introduction to Clontarf

Located approximately 25km north of the Brisbane CBD, Clontarf is a coastal suburb within the City of Moreton Bay. It sits at the south-west corner of the Redcliffe Peninsula and is bordered by Kippa-Ring, Margate, Woody Point and Rothwell, with Bramble Bay and Hays Inlet along its edges.

Clontarf was the name of two estate subdivisions sold in 1882, but the estates were less successful than others on the peninsula, and development did not take off until World War II. The Hornibrook Highway opened in 1935, and the Peninsula Country Golf Club opened in 1936. Clontarf Beach State School opened in 1950, Clontarf Beach State High School followed in 1964, and Grace Lutheran Primary School opened in 1971. That year, the tidal surge from Cyclone Dora hit the foreshore, and parts of it, including the area now known as Pelican Park, were reclaimed. The current Houghton Highway and Ted Smout Memorial Bridge replaced the original Hornibrook Bridge, which is heritage listed.

With extensive experience buying across Brisbane and Moreton Bay, the team at Lauren Jones Buyers Agency has deep local insight into Clontarf’s best streets, school catchments and long-term growth drivers.

Once a series of estate subdivisions, mudflats and wetlands, Clontarf is now a residential and light-industrial suburb. It is the first suburb reached after crossing the highway onto the Redcliffe Peninsula.

Why Choose Clontarf?

Clontarf is bordered by water on two sides and is about 4.6km south-west of Redcliffe. Its shopping centres, schools and foreshore parkland give residents plenty on the doorstep, and the highway connects the suburb to Brisbane across Bramble Bay.

The market is strong. Houses have grown by around 16% and units by around 18% over the past year. Houses take a median of 17 days to sell and units 15 days. Over the same 12 months, 153 houses and 34 units sold. About 64% of homes are owner occupied.

The suburb’s west holds the largest industrial area in the Redcliffe area, so buyers should consider proximity to industrial land. Clontarf is also low-lying, at an elevation of about 12m, so buyers should check flood and storm tide overlays and the age and condition of each property individually.

Whether you’re a growing family, a downsizer or an investor seeking a bayside suburb with steady demand, Clontarf offers a level of lifestyle and value that few comparable suburbs can match.
